I’m not much for New Year’s resolutions; I’m more of a ‘reflect-on-the-past” kind of a gal, so I’d like to thank all of you who have supported the fledgling efforts of Wellness & Words and my yoga classes and workshops in 2016.
This has truly been a remarkable year. Since teaching my first class of 26 kindergartners in November of 2015, I’ve taught yoga to over 200 children in schools, studios, community centers and a camp. I’ve completed a 200-hour yoga teacher training and have begun teaching adult classes.
It hasn’t all been fun and success. This year I fought off bronchitis and another nasty cold. I cope with chronic pain. I lost my mom to Alzheimer’s and cancer. But sharing the joys of yoga with you and your children, supported by my loving family as I pursue work I love, has been a blessing and a joy that has carried me through challenges and sorrow.
So what is this “Just One Thing” in the title? It’s my take on a New Year’s resolution. Rather than overarching life-changing goals for the year, I challenge you to find Just One Thing every day to create the life you want. Just One Thing to nourish you. Just One Thing to make you smile. Just One Thing to bring you peace. And that Just One Thing may be something different every single day of the year, or it may develop into a routine that you settle into as the days roll by.
How do you find Just One Thing? Pause. Breathe. Listen to your heart. In any given moment, if you listen carefully and let go of doubt and judgement, your One Thing will show itself. You just have to listen.
